Made of porcelain, the gaiwan is considered by tea connoisseurs to be the preferred brewing vessel for prized aged teas with delicate flavours and aromas.
It consists of the bowl, lid and saucer. The lid allows the tea to be infused right in the cup. It is also especially popular for infusing aged black tea because of the ability to be infused multiple times.
The standard size of this gaiwan is 210 ml.
Gaiwan and other teaware e.g. clay teapot can easily absorb tastes and aromas and should never be washed using detergents, but rather with water only.
